Welcome to CMIV

DSCF0332.JPGCenter for Medical Image Science and Visualization (CMIV) is a multidisciplinary research center initiated by Linköpings universitet, Landstinget i Östergötland and Sectra AB.

CMIV conducts focused front-line research within multidisciplinary projects providing solutions to tomorrow’s clinical issues. The mission is to develop future methods and tools for image analysis and visualization for applications within health care and medical research.

Petter Quick, CMIV Radiology Nurse and Application Specialist in CT and Imaging Post Processing, is a competitor at Siemens International CT Image Contest. The challenge is how to obtain the highest possible image quality at the lowest possible radiation dose. Petter is competing with the five CMIV images seen in the picture.

CMIV receives funding for a new MR scanner

The 'Knut och Alice Wallenbergs stiftelse' has granted CMIV 18 million SEK for a new 3 Tesla MR-scanner. "This is a great honour for Linköping University and CMIV to receive this kind of support for our research. We will now be able to secure that our researchers have access to the latest technology", says CMIV director and associate professor Anders Persson.

The Athena Prize 2009 goes to CMIV and the clinical research on virtual autopsies

The prize goes to good examples of clinical research creating patient benefit. Anders Persson and Anders Ynnerman at CMIV are honoured with the Athena Prize for their development of new advanced methods regarding visualization and medical imaging. The most noted project is the application of virtual autopsies, which is already in use in forensic science.

Norrköping Visualization Center in cooperation with CMIV have developed a Virtual Autopsy Table within the Visualization Program, funded by the Knowledge Foundation, the Vårdal Foundation, VINNOVA, Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research, and Invest in Sweden Agency. The demonstrator will be shown in Japan in October, when the Visualization Program will meet with Japanese industry at the Swedish Embassy in Tokyo.
